Kids Day At The Office

I can't believe and I am reluctant to believe that my holiday from work is already halfway through. We have a 2 week break from work and it's incredible how the first week had gone so quickly! I tried to spend as much time with the kids as possible, taking them to places too, because as soon as work resumes, I will have none of these again.

The last day at work was a very pleasant one as kids were invited to visit the workplace with their parents. Thanks to Daddy who drove us in the morning so we could come early and be saved from the hassle of public transport.

Summer Nights Dream

It had been a couple of very warm nights now and the kids are finding it difficult to settle before sleeping. On top of that, hubby is working at night for about 2 weeks now. That means, the kids were constantly competing for the vacant spot next to me! I'm deeply flattered although this poses a great dilemma too - as only 2 people could fit on the mum-&-dad-bed.

Love Letters and Stuffs!

As the days get closer to ending the 2016, I can't say that things are winding down smoothly. Disappointments pour left and right, not only to me, but me as a disapointment to others (sheepishly, I ask forgiveness please). I hope I don't receive a lot of hate for my shortcomings hehe.

I am proud to say though that I am still very thankful because I have been given girlfriends - both close and apart - who have been sources of courage at times and sounding boards for most. Other than my family, they were the ones who were willing to lift me up and encourage me to keep trying even when I was so bitter and dark. Special mention goes to my besty, Lorraine, blog pal (personally considered blog guru), Diane and "ate" Didith.

As a simple gesture of gratitude, I wish to make my girlfriends happy and send them a few cute stuffs - making use of my skills in art. For my ate, being within arms reach, a personalised coffee cup, a personalised charm and a funny book about girl talk.

The cup bearing her signature motto: she believed she could so she did!

For besty and Diane who are miles away from me, an old school post with mini surprises inside. I love letters! Besides, I have been wanting to actually use this cute customized wraparound label. Believe - in keeping the LOVE burning for it is our best defense against every trials and problems.

This is a sneak peek... It's should be almost complete but not quite as I have yet to write the main letter but I'm getting there. Hopefully, I would be able to write about what's inside afterwards :)

To inspire me, my "ate" also gave me this lovely drink coaster -

Now, every time I take my tea and coffee breaks, I shall always be positively charged. :)

Happy Thoughts & Memories

I have just re-read my last post and had to wince at that. I know it was a real struggle I had just went through and thankfully I had overcome it since then. That day, I remember feeling like Zuko in Avatar the Last Airbender (insert my husband giving me the look of exasperation for always inserting Avatar whenever I can haha). I was feeling angry and sad - at myself.

I'm angry at myself! -if only I can firebend! :D - source

Monsters Inside My Head

I don’t know where to start. That’s how confused I am. I don’t even know what to think anymore.
There’s a turmoil inside my heart. The more that I expect to see myself happier and more peaceful, the heavier the weight becomes. It’s like a thunderstorm brewing up inside me, dark and ominous, hovering, blocking the hint of light that keeps me sane.

People say “if you can’t beat them, join them.” But I refuse to belong to a system that violates virtues I hold on to. In moments when I am weak, I feel like succumbing would be the best resort. Or is it moments when I am strong? I don’t know, I don’t know. I don’t even know if I had been strong at all. Maybe, I was simply unconventional from the beginning. Do I even belong?

My mind is spinning from incomprehensible thoughts. Ideals that contradict realities, disappointed expectations. What used to be simple has now become complex. How can I ever go back to the basics? Have I lost my track? Go back to the Philippines? Will it make things okay? Will it make things right? I know God can pick sense out of a confused prayer, but am I even capable of that?

Are these merely monsters in my head?

Today is a Sunshiny Day

Just a quick one...

Today when I walked the kids to school, the sun was shining really brightly. The breeze was still chilly and cold but the sun offsets it. This is the kind of weather I described to my husband as something I prefer when he asked me before about it. His reaction was that it's a very rare one but yeah, that's what makes it more special I guess. I love the weather so much I felt like singing, "I can see clearly now the rain has gone..."

So I'm thankful for the weather today. For me, it's like an oasis after walking through the desert, or the calm after the storm, the light at the end of the tunnel.

Life had been very challenging the past few days in general. It's like getting beaten physically, emotionally and mentally. With all the adjustments we are going through with our new schedules right now, it's sad that aggravating situations that has been buried would come back to pull you down to bury you in the pits. And then there's sad news about people passing away in your life. Changes and challenges alike. But I'm thankful for the lessons. It burns and then it heals. No matter if everyone else turns their backs on us, we will strive and thrive with God's help. That is all that matters. The chance and hope...

So this sunshiny day reminds me, that there is time for sadness but this day is for happiness and silence and hope and finally... peace. So I wish everyone to be happy today, because a happy heart makes the face cheerful.

Have some tea!

Forgiven Not Forgotten

Prologue: I hope the title of this post is not too controversial. This is not about disagreeing with the fact that to "Forgive is to Forget."

Ice Breaker

I could sit all day in front of the PC writing, writing and writing... Still trying to find the time.

And the list of my pending posts are:

- Melbourne Trip 2016 - Day 2 Fitzroy Gardens
- Melbourne Trip 2016 - Day 3 Thanksgiving
- Melbourne Trip 2016 - Day 4 Concert
- Melbourne Trip 2016 - Day 5 Snow!
- First Timers in Canberra
- Family Rest Day After The Trips
- Demi on Public Speaking

Thank God the passion's back. Before, I used to have time, but all I could do was worry and get anxious and sulk.

Personally, when writing, finding the time is a lot easier task than finding the inspiration.

God willing, I will be able to  update my posts, one step at a time.

Thank you.

Melbourne Trip 2016 - Day 1

I can't believe it's turning 2 weeks now since we came back from Melbourne. As usual, things got busy at home and at work so there was really no time to have shared this adventure sooner. It was a short visit this year compared to last year nevertheless it was just as fun.

Anyway, the trip was packed with too many beautiful photos so I will post about them day by day.

Day 1 - 4 Aug 2016

We traveled by car on Thursday. We left Sydney around 5 in the morning and took us the whole day to get there including the stops. By the time we reached our booked accommodation at Docklands, the sun has set. Fortunately, the house was really nice and cosy. We were very exhausted from the travel but had a very comfortable sleep.

The house we stayed in this year was a huge improvement from the one we had last year - will post about it when I get the time. It was quite expensive and too spacious for just the 4 of us to be honest. So when we were at the house, the kids had fun playing hide and seek or just chilling inside the walk-in closet which they turned into their very own headquarters, while the husband was busy in the kitchen (as usual). As for me, I was in charge with managing our clothes and keeping the house in order.

Be Kind

Forewarning:

Forgive me if you'd find the following article to be "melodramatic" for your taste but I just feel the need to share my thoughts which had been nagging me over the weekend. This is the emotional side of sassy girl which she had probably acquired from experiences - and from watching too much drama films especially attributed to My Rosy Life - oh why can't I forget you?

Weekend Fun

This weekend's adventure had been exceptionally adventure-packed, exhausting and fun!

Friday, as usual, I left the office around 3pm or 3 past and started the weekend happiness early with my husband and kids. We met at Penrith Westfield shopping centre and had a bite to eat for early dinner. Good thing, by the time I got to the shopping centre, most of the food stalls were about to close and had the goodies on clearance. :)

Slumber Party

The children are sleeping over at their friends' house tonight. It's a milestone for them who have always been sheltered all their lives. I have always regarded them as babies and it's kind of sad to realise that they're actually big girls now...

When I was their age, I have never experienced the slumber party which I had often encountered from reading Sweet Valley Kids pocketbooks. I had always been excited to read about the twins' adventures and I am happy that the kids are actually going to experience it now. They were the same age as the twins in the story but of course, I know their adventures would not be as daring as in the books... I hope.

Excited!!!

Movie Review: The Healing

I know this movie had been released 4 years ago but I have just recently watched it and I found it interesting so I thought why not make a review? Or at least narrate our experience while watching the movie.

Last Sunday, S. Cecil invited us to have dinner at their house. While at their house, S. Cookie with her husband and 2 little boys joined us too. While waiting for S. Cecil's husband to finish cooking pancit, we decided to watch a movie.

How to Make: Ube Cake

As I have mentioned from my 3rd day Mommy Adventure, here is the tutorial of the Ube Cake I made for my husband’s supposed to be surprise birthday cake. It’s actually more of a story than a tutorial-because! Do not try this at home! Haha!

After clearing up the kitchen area, I was left with more or less a couple of hours to bake the cake before I go and pick up the kids from school. My feet were hurting from standing all day long so I hesitated whether I should still proceed or not. I have never tried this recipe before so it will take me longer as I have to refer to the recipe every now and then. However, I was driven by my desire to surprise my love (oh such a powerful force!) I didn’t waste another minute and started making that cake.

Sunday Fun Day

Last Sunday, we took out the kids to WestPoint Blacktown to meet the family from church whose little girls were friends with Demi and Daisy. WestPoint was holding an event called The Hunt for children to enjoy during the school holidays. The event was themed Alice in Wonderland.

Church Day

Just another normal day going to church. The kids were sporting a nice comfy winter dress and of course, the stockings! I just love little girls in stockings which I had rarely seen from my country of origin, because it's very hot and tropical.

Nice and sunny winter morning - the girls had to squint because of the sun

Mommy Duties - Day 3

Day 3 - 1 July 2016 Friday

This was the busiest day of my Mommy Duties series. Today was the first day of the month, last day of the week and the children's last day of term before the 2-week school holidays. The husband is celebrating his 18th birthday on Sunday but we'll be having a busy weekend, so I thought I need to do something for dinner tonight. It has been a long overdue plan to bake a cake and I have some of the ingredients on hand. I also have a packet of Thai Coconut Rice so I'll just need some meat to go with it. So Ube Cake it is then plus a Thai cuisine (which I have no experience making).

Mommy Duties - Day 2

Day 2 - 30 June 2016 Thursday

I knew it was going to be another cold day again so I wrapped the kids up with beanies and gloves this time. I had recently bought a pair for myself too, but then I realised one pair of their old pair of gloves was missing, so I had to lend mine to Daisy.

Winter clothes upgrade :)

Mommy Duties - Day 1

As a mom, I find that there's something special about waking up in the morning and realising that I will be helping the kids get ready for school and then attending to household chores for a while. Last week, for 3 days, I had to drop the kids to school and pick them up as well. Those days were very very hectic nevertheless exciting!

Here's a glimpse of Day 1.

My husband got up at 4am and pretty much that got me awake as well, being the light sleeper that I am. I tried to drift off to sleep for another hour and finally got out of bed at 5 past. After getting dressed, I went out of the bedroom to prepare the children's breakfast, which daddy has cooked before leaving the house.

Breakfast and packed food for school all prepared by daddy!

How to Relax on a Weekend

Last weekend, I have finally found the time (and energy) to organise the house or at least a part of it, and get rid of some of my rubbish. Well, I didn’t really get rid of them. It was more like transforming them into something useful so their presence is still very much existing inside the house much to husband’s disappointment. So yeah, you might think, this isn't related to the title of the post, but surprisingly, this is how a typical working mum relaxes on a weekend in Sydney ;)

The Secret House by Carol Beach York

Almost a score ago when I have first encountered this book and yet its story still holds a special part inside me, prompting a certain crave now to read the book again, even though at my present age, the delight in this experience had probably faded to a great extent. This book is special in a class of its own in that it marks the shift in my reading trek from the cozy picture books to a more complex and wordy short novel (it has chapters). Thanks to The Secret House by Carol Beach York for making the shift experience a gratifying one.

14 Years...

Life is a bit easier again. The problems are still there. In fact, the problems are still trying to suck us into its pit deeper and deeper like a quicksand. But I refuse to give up now.

I try to make my emotions work together in harmony especially since I have been feeling unusual sadness lately and it had been trying to take away the best of me. I don't know where the strength or the will come from but I managed to get out of the quick sand in time feeling despicable about myself after.

So it's been 14 years and thank God I am still fighting. Thank God for the recent gift of wisdom I was able to see the right track again.

Sunday Family Day

After a long busy week frok work and church, we find time to have fun as family. Our simple whims include discovering new parks.

Jamison park is not only good for kids but for adults too especially now that husband and I are venturing into a healthier lifestyle.

P is for Pressure

After 3 years and 5 months wherein I have shared my lessons for newbie drivers, I finally could drive officially!

Before I went to Australia, many people suggested that I get my licence in the Philippines first. Securing a licence in the Philippines is a LOT easier than in Australia, as I have personally compared. Back in August 2012, I just had to do 6 hours lessons with a reputable driving instuctor and voila! My very own licence. No actual exams needed, no dramas. I never really got to use the licence though because 2 months after I had to fly to Australia.
